Everything we do is thanks to our incredible team—they truly are the heart and soul of spacelab_. To help you get to know them a little better, we’ve asked a few questions to give you a glimpse into who they are.

Meet Teresa Tognetti. Teresa joined spacelab_ in August 2022 and has recently been promoted to Associate. Teresa graduated as an Architect in Venezuela, South America and has 14 years of experience in a series of world-class architectural practices between the UK, Europe & South America.

After her studies, Teresa co-founded her own design practice and worked on a range of projects from retail to mixed-use. However, her motivation for exploring different countries led her to Colombia and now the UK where she decided to work within a larger team. Teresa has won many interior design competitions for clients in the retail, workplace & hospitality sectors.

Tell us a little bit about you, your background and your new position at spacelab_

I’m a traveller and cooking enthusiast with a naturally chatty and sociable personality. I believe that my international experience and architectural background enable me to bring a unique approach to the team, contributing to pushing boundaries in design. This new role as an Associate is an exciting step forward for me, and I’m thrilled to take on a leadership position, bringing innovative design concepts to life while collaborating closely with our incredible team

What inspires you?

Travelling and exploring new cities. I love getting to know different cultures and understanding how they solve common problems. I’m also inspired by positive and collaborative work environments, where people are motivated to do their best and support one another What do you like the most about your work?

That we can make our ideas a reality. The fact that we can work and develop our designs side-by-side with clients, consultants and builders and, as a result, see the impact it has on the day-to-day life of those who inhabit the space. What have been the most rewarding project moments during your time at spacelab_?

Every project has had its own memorable and rewarding moments, whether it’s seeing an initial design idea come to life, or witnessing the positive impact our work has on the people who use the space. One standout experience was working at the Royal Veterinary College. This project was a fantastic opportunity to gain deeper insights into the laboratories and educational sectors, adding valuable skills to my experience What do you like most about working at spacelab_?

The people and the collaborative culture. It’s inspiring to see colleagues grow professionally and to learn from one another every day. Spacelab fosters an environment that encourages ownership, progress, and continuous learning, all within a flexible and supportive culture If you could change one thing within the industry, what would it be?

Hybrid working has helped people improve their day-to-day lives. I think the next step in the industry is to reduce overwork to ensure people have a healthy balance between life and work.
